Family Session Details

Looking to book a family session but want to know how things work? Got you covered!

STEP 1: Scheduling your session

To secure a session date, let's schedule a call or email to find a suitable day and time. After selecting a date, you'll sign an online contract and pay the $450 session fee. The entire booking process is quick and can be completed online. As you check your calendar, keep in mind the following considerations:

  • Weekend slots are limited and popular, so booking early is wise. Weekday sessions offer flexibility, and before or after work/school is an option. Spring, summer, and fall are peak times for outdoor family photos in Northern NJ, so secure your spot, especially for weekends. Winter sessions in the snow are also fun and festive.

  • If you have specific dates or holidays in mind for prints or gifts, book well in advance, ideally two months prior. Most sessions are scheduled 1.5 hours before sunset, known as the "golden hour." These coveted spots fill up quickly, but alternative options can be discussed.

  • Indoor sessions are available, suitable for colder months or unexpected weather, including newborn sessions. Morning to midday is recommended for indoor and newborn sessions. In case of bad weather on your session date, rescheduling is an option, or indoor locations can be utilized.

  • For extended family sessions, let's schedule a call to discuss expectations and make it happen.

Step 2: Between Booking and the Session - Prep time!

No need to worry. You have a full schedule. I want to keep it simple for you!

Once we've decided on a time and date and officially put your session on the books, I'll send you a prep guide to getting ready.

You will be getting an email or two with some helpful info on what to expect during the session, including ideas and suggestions on what to wear (and what NOT to wear) and what to do

the day of, etc to make sure your family is ready to have fun.

I will want to schedule time for a quick chat within 7 days of your session. This is to go over where the session will take place (Park? Your backyard? City, or an urban spot?

or even in your home. (Newborn sessions are typically done in your home.)

This is also when we check the weather for the day of your session. If the forecast is questionable or someone seems to be coming down with the flu, we can talk about our rescheduling

options. Otherwise, that's the perfect time to ask any last-minute questions, or let me know if you've come up with a fun idea we haven't discussed.

Step 3: The Fun Part - The Session Itself

On session day, expect an outdoor* session lasting about an hour. Arrive on time or a few minutes early for a stress-free introduction. Here are my rules: 1) No telling anyone to smile, or you're sent back to the car. 2) Let's have fun and play, and I'm open to kid-suggested poses (sometimes).

The first half involves more posed shots, ensuring everyone looks at the camera for those classic shots Grandma loves. We cover group shots, kids together, individual shots, and various family combinations.

No cell phones or distractions—just quality family time. Anticipate hugs, kisses, laughter, and fun, followed by games and poses to capture your family's unique connection. Trust me; it's worth it. And a reminder: no asking the kids to smile—leave that to me.

*Newborn sessions are typically indoors.

Step 4: After the Session - What to Expect

Within 3 to 7 weeks of your session, your photos will be ready. While it may seem like a wait, I prioritize quality editing. If you're eager, expedited editing is available for delivery within 7-10 business days (see pricing guide).

After marveling at your images, for session purchases, let me know your collection choice within a month. No pressure! Opt for the full digital package for lifetime access with no expiration.

While waiting for edits, consider your printing preferences. Memories stay online until you print. For inspiration, check out my blog, "The Power of the Print"
